About the Masterclass
This masterclass is both part of the upcoming 10th edition of the Norient Film
Festival NFF 2021 and «Ancient Futures» the 8th season of EthnoKino, an
ethnographic film program at «Kino in der Reitschule» Bern.

About Roger Horn
Roger Horn is an unconventional filmmaker and visual anthropologist who
utilizes Super 8mm, found home movies, digital, and YouTube videos in his
ethnographic and experimental video works. Roger holds a PhD in Social
Anthropology from the University of Cape Town and currently is professor in the
Visual & Media Anthropology MA program at HMKW Berlin.
His thesis, «Memories,
material culture, and methodology: Employing multiple filmic formats, forms,
and informal archives in anthropological research among Zimbabwean migrant
women» was accompanied by several films, which have been screened at festivals
such as 65th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and several editions
of the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival. His short film «culture
leap (non-linear)» is part of this year’s
NFF program
